Inside Pensión by Casa Bosques: Roma Norte, Mexico City

In the sun-dappled, poetic neighborhood of Roma Norte, Mexico City, design studio Savvystudio has orchestrated an architectural sonnet. It is called Pensión – a ten-room guesthouse that gently discards the rigid logic of traditional hospitality in favor of the fluid, intuitive instinct of a dedicated collector.

There are spaces that invite us to look, and then there are spaces that invite us to feel. Nestled quietly above the iconic Casa Bosques Bookstore and Chocolate Atelier, Pensión belongs beautifully to the latter. What began four years ago as a private, experimental three-room hospitality exploration has gracefully matured into an intimate ten-room sanctuary. Conceived by New York and Mexico City-based Savvystudio (SAVVY), Pensión operates less like a hotel and more like an evolving, tactile manifestation of the Casa Bosques visual lexicon. It is a house completely shaped by its neighborhood, responding to the slow, creative rhythms of Roma Norte.

A Dialogue of Material and Form

Occupying two former family homes, Savvystudio has masterfully preserved the residential soul of the architecture. The space relies on understated elegance and rich storytelling through modest, deliberate choices. Rather than erasing the history of the buildings, the design embraces it, framing views with charming Juliet windows and encouraging moments of quiet reflection within intimate garden patios.

The interior architecture feels remarkably alive, a result of deep, collaborative dialogues with a global network of craftspeople and friends. The walls, painted in an exclusive collaboration with St. Leo Interiors, offer a textured, matte backdrop that catches the Mexican sunlight with painterly grace. Underfoot, custom carpeted floors soften the transition between rooms, while bespoke swimming pool rugs, designed by Rafael Savvy in collaboration with Christopher Farr Design, bring graphic, artistic layers to the outdoor transitions.

Curated Intuition: The Guest Rooms

Each of the ten unique guest rooms is an individual immersion into art, design, and travel. Savvystudio bypassed mass manufacturing entirely; every single piece of furniture was custom-designed by the studio and meticulously produced in partnership with Herencia_mx. This bespoke furniture behaves like sculptures within the space, interacting dynamically with large-scale, thematic wallpapers from Wallpaper Projects (another brilliant collaboration with Rafael Savvy) that transport guests into the serene expanse of a contemporary museum.

Lighting is treated as the ultimate atmospheric medium. The rooms feature a carefully assembled mix of contemporary fixtures from Marrow Project and Bocci, juxtaposed with exquisite, artisanal bedside ceramic lamps crafted by LIPS Atelier. Sourced archival fabrics from Studio 84 MX add a historical weight and textural depth, ensuring that every object feels deliberately gathered over time rather than styled for an occasion.

A Hyper-Local Sensory Landscape

The design philosophy extends seamlessly into the guest amenities, transforming standard hotel provisions into a fluid extension of the neighborhood’s culinary and sensory ecosystem. To stay at Pensión is to experience Roma Norte through all five senses, with high-speed Wi-Fi seamlessly integrated into the background of a deeply curated environment.

Guests can indulge in a cultivated mini-bar created in partnership with the acclaimed Rosetta, which is thoughtfully stocked with natural wines, snacks, and seasonal treats. The sensory journey continues with a hand-selected literary library tailored for each room by the Casa Bosques bookstore down below, complemented by special edition chocolates from the Casa Bosques chocolate workshop. Even the daily wellness routine is elevated through an array of premium beauty and self-care products from the Casa Bosques Pharmacy.

Finding Your Own Phase

Ultimately, Savvystudio’s work at Pensión redefines luxury for the modern design enthusiast. By prioritizing rich narratives, artistic collaborations, and an unhurried pace, they have created a sequence of atmospheres that subtly reframe one’s perception of space. In an effort to match guests’ personal room requests, the house takes the time to learn about individual needs and preferences. It is a highly personal invitation to slow down, match the heartbeat of Mexico City, and live, if only for a few nights, inside a perfectly composed work of art.
