Pigalle’s New Minimalist Haven: Hôtel Massé

In the heart of Paris’ dynamic 9th arrondissement, Hotel Massé redefines the boutique hotel interior as a crafted narrative of aesthetics, comfort, and individuality. Conceived by siblings Corto and Éole Peyron and brought to life by Paris-based architects Gasparetto Parenti, every corner feels curated rather than assembled, and every room whispers design intent rather than shouts trend.
Stepping through the low-key lobby – more akin to a well-styled living room than a traditional reception – you immediately sense a layering of materials and influences: warm okoumé and maritime pine panelling, plush beige carpeting, vintage furniture and velvet seating set against softly burgundy corridors that contrast with sunlit guest spaces. Each of the 40 rooms reads like a private Parisian apartment; no two are identical. Some feature charming sloped ceilings, others open onto petite balconies overlooking zinc rooftops, and all are suffused with natural light that highlights the tactile richness of timber, textiles and bespoke finishes.
The design philosophy blends minimalist restraint with thoughtful eclecticism. Custom-made furniture sits comfortably alongside ’70s-era vintage pieces, while subtle references to Parisian cultural heritage and craftsmanship abound – from hand-woven fabrics and bespoke cabinetry crafted from reclaimed wood to ceramic bathroom tiles by artist Héloïse Rival. Art, intentionally integrated throughout the interiors, plays a role as essential as materials: abstract works by Eduardo Lalanne and site-specific installations by Christian Rosa animate walls and corridors, creating visual dialogue rather than mere decoration.
This is not design for design’s sake, but a thoughtful balance of form and function that makes Hotel Massé feel like a lived-in home – intimate, textured and undeniably stylish – perfect for a design-minded explorer of Paris.
