1477 Reichhalter, a Restored Boutique Guesthouse in South Tyrol

With its beautiful vast valleys, its mild, almost mediterranean climate and its exceptional food, Südtirol is clearly my favourite region in the Alps… And now there’s a brandnew place to stay, which I’d like to introduce to you today: the 1477 Reichhalter in Lana, a beautiful little village close to Meran.

Being a feature of village life for centuries, the old building was crying out for someone to give it love without painting over its wonderful charisma of heritage and aged presence. Klaus Dissertori and his family – hoteliers and natural hosts, have longed viewed this old building as not only the perfect addition to the family business (the family also runs the famous Schwarzschmied), but the opportunity to create something of simple beauty and a celebration of heritage for destination Lana. Together with architect Zeno Bampi and interior designer Christina von Berg the Dissertoi family renovated the old building and turned it into a boutique home for the “thoughtful traveller” with 8 rooms and a restaurant.

The rooms

The 8 rooms are furnished with salvaged pieces, ceramics in cereal tones, muted linens in putty colours, sink-into-luxurious bedding and organic skincare from guru Susanne Kaufmann (adding a touch of indulgence to the clean puritan edit). The perfect place for those who love putty tones, earthy demure and heaps of wrinkles of times past.

The Kitchen

Residents kick off their day with the scents of freshness from the local baker’s basket to homemade jams, cured mountain meats and the yellowest of egg yolks. And the all-day café is a comfy hotspot for fellow guests. In the evening, the room shifts gear to become a restaurant of sheer taste: a farm-to-table concept that brings hearty favourites, wines from the nearby vineyards and celebration of everything good from Südtirol.
