Travel: Casa Mãe, Lagos, Portugal

Overlooking the old historic city of Lagos and the sea, Casa Mãe is a true dream get-away and the ideal base to explore the well-kept secrets of the wild part of the Western Algarve. Casa Mãe comprises three quite different houses – a carefully renovated 19th century estate house, three cabanas located between the aromatic plants of the garden and Joga da Bola, a brand-new contemporary building.

Casa Mãe

On the ground floor you’ll find a quiet living room and a casual fine dining pop up restaurant with its romantic terrace. The five suites are all located on the first floor where the Algarvian light shines in the rooms from the many guillotine windows and French balconies.

Joga da Bola

The white minimalist building with its 22 guest rooms has a local context with floors in handmade terracotta and a façade of wooden panels inspired by the traditional Algarvian reixas, screening the balconies from the sun while letting through light and air. Expect modern design, generous volumes, king size bed, walk-in rain shower, free-standing bathtub, hammock and the perfect scenery for a breakfast in the sun…

Cabanas

The three cabanas are located between the aromatic plants of the garden. They follow the traditional Algarvian rustic architecture with a contemporary twist, designed to chill out on the spacious private patios with hammocks and outdoor showers. This is the choice for those seeking sun, tranquility and privacy. Plenty of plants, scents of herbs and trees – the set-up for cocooning and barefoot holidays.

The restaurant

The restaurant Orta by Casa Mãe offers breakfast from dawn till late, raw food during the day and barbecue with outdoor cinema in summer time – farm to table by essence.
