Kathrin Eckhardt Studio – African Craftmanship

Today I’d like to introduce to you Swiss designer Kathrin Eckhardt (though my Swiss readers may probably already know her). After having worked 12 years as a fashion stylist and writer, when she followed her ex-boyfriend to Ghana, she fell in love with the Ghanaian culture and craftmanship and decided to found her own label in West Africa, far from the safety and comfort of her home.

Kathrin combines contemporary European designs with African craftmanship, using local resources and crafts to create a collection that unites both worlds. Believing in social empowerment and a united world, her vision is to create unique, high quality products made in West Africa for the rest of the world.

Her collection comprises baskets, bags and an exclusive clothing line, made with traditional Ghanaian handcrafts in the Greater Accra Region. Local techniques are combined with European design knowledge. All items are available in her online shop.
