Marqí – One Strange Hotel in the Sintra Region, Portugal

Marqi one strange hotel

Secluded on a curvy road by the foot of the fairytale-like Sintra mountains, Marqí is an 1980s mansion turned into a private boutique hotel, with spacious rooms & suites, pool garden (complete with pool bar, of course), lobby & restaurant.

Marqí is pretty little hideaway, tucked away in an exotic hillside garden with countless private spots in the sun and stunning views of the green valley and the nearby beaches.

Founded by Danish photographer and former fashion brand owner Mikkel Kristensen, this place was brought to life in collaboration with friends & partners artist & architect Mikas Emil, club & restaurant owners Simon Frank & Simon Lennet and entrepreneur Henrik Fjordbak.

The renovated mansion now includes 8 spacious rooms & suites – all with private balconies or terraces, and no two units alike. Unique in both layout and design, each rooms is carefully curated with one-of-a-kind vintage pieces and new bathrooms, all with a love for mid-century modern and 70s aesthetics.

The hotel is located in the Lisbon region, a 45 minutes scenic drive from the airport or city center, on Estrada do Rodízio by Praia Grande, on the coastline of Sintra National Park. It’s just a 15 mins charming walk to the beach and nearest restaurants, the hillside location allows for seclusion and privacy.
