Travel: Arua Private Spa Villas, Meran, South Tyrol

This year has been quite a ride so far! But at least most borders are open again, so today I would like to introduce you to a special place I visited just shortly before the lockdown messed up all our lives. This place is called Arua Private Spa Villas – an idyllic and peaceful hideaway that sits high above Meran and the Adige Valley surrounded by a gorgeous and pristine natural landscape.

The Arua is your private retreat – six spacious apartments with individual charm and character, each with at least two bedrooms and en suite bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. Each villa is furnished individually with selected pieces from Molteni&C, Dada and Vitra; stone, wood and natural colours create a cozy atmosphere.

Spa in a very private setting

The biggest plus of the Arua is the silence that surrounds it. No haste, no rush. Every villa features a private spa area with a small, heated pool for two that has a whirlpool function. There’s also an outdoor shower to complement the private sauna.

Downstairs you will find a sole infinity pool which is at all guests disposal. Swim all the way out to its overfall and take a moment to contemplate.

My stay took place in March, so nature was still in hibernation – but you could already guess what the property would look like in full bloom. Nestled in a 2.5 hectare garden landscape with South Tyrol’s highest olive garden grove, vines, almond, chestnut and citrus trees. It is also an ideal starting point for excursions and hikes.

For those who wish to avoid crowds these days, I can fully recommend the Arua. Above Meran, you don’t even have to leave the house. Gourmet breakfast is served each morning on your private terrace or inside your villa. Same with dinner – a gourmet dinner without fixed time or dress code is served right from owner Otto Mattivi’s restaurant Hidalgo. “Hidalgo At Home” delivery service spoils you with unique Hidalgo classics, ranging from antipasti to juicy steak specialties and Mediterranean fish dishes to sweet desserts.
