Travel: Villa Rosmarino, Camogli, Italy

Villa Rosmarino is a home, not a hotel. There are no numbers on the bedroom doors, there’s no red carpet, no hotel hall… you don’t simply stay, you live in it. The small Ligurian palazzo with original mosaic flooring was built in 1907 and is located on Mount Portofino, above the romantic fishing village of Camogli.

The huge garden of Villa Rosmarino is entered through a large gate while inside lemon, tangerine and grapefruit trees bloom right outside the large opening doors of the living room while the lavender and rosemary bordered lawn surrounds the swimming pool. A large magnolia tree and some chamelias spread their fragrance on the mountain side, while climbing roses, gardenias, pomegranate trees and geraniums will lead your walk toward the swimming pool area.

The pool has been given a thoroughly modern makeover by owner Mario, an ex-advertising exec who gave up Milan for this tranquil hideaway; in its stark simplicity, the main decoration is the collection of contemporary art that came with Mario, including a spectacular cache of Italian vases.

Villa Rosmarino has six bedrooms: each one offers guests the privilege to live in a unique and different atmosphere from the other guests of the residence. Each room has an open wardrobe and private bathroom with modern resin floorings and light Saint Hubert stone, the sinks of Carrara marble fashioned in Ligurian style. The villa’s interiors are relaxing and soothing for the most demanding traveler.
