Slow Beam, a Design-Savvy Luxury Guest House in Hobart, Tasmania

Slow Beam is a design-savvy luxury accomodation for two people nestled within the rugged hills of West Hobart, Tasmania. The architecturally inspired guesthouse with sweeping views connects elegant modern design with its rugged, bush environment. For this project photographer Lauren Bramford and her husband Keith Mason joined forces with Melbourne-based design practice Hearth Studio and architect Murray Barker.

The brief was to design a destination balancing comfort and glamour – the outcome is a moody bunker with playful interior cues from 1970s modernist design contrasting with black-stained ply walls. Sun spills in from vast bush-facing windows, offering a glorious intersection between light and dark.
