Bàti Bàti – A Holiday Apartment in the Historic Centre of Hyères

Located in the heart of the medieval town of Hyères, just a stone’s throw from Mallet-Stevens’s Villa Noailles, sits Bàti Bàti. The 40m2 holiday apartment is perched on the rooftops of the old town and combines a minimalist Japanese spirit with an earthy Mediterranean palette. It’s a minimalist place with neat furnishings designed by the talented interior designers at Studio Heju (who have already worked their magic in this beautiful place in the Ouche Valley).

The vaulted entrance covered in pink limewash paint sets the tone for the flat. The kitchen has been placed in the centre of the living space like a sideboard on legs. The light wood slats blend with the dark wood, recalling the Japanese wabi-sabi spirit. Opposite, the wall around the fireplace is composed of abstract planes and interacting shapes, like a large collage in relief. Leading directly to the terrace, small terracotta steps form the link between inside and outside.

Details evoking the Mediterranean, and in particular the wave motif, can be found throughout the project, notably in the handmade earthenware in the bathroom, the woven palm headboard and the shelves in the kitchen.
